Leadership in Learning Communities

Members promote and participate in the creation of collaborative, safe and supportive learning communities. They recognize their shared responsibilities and their leadership roles in order to facilitate student success. Members maintain and uphold the principles of the ethical standards in these learning communities.

RATIONALE:

In order to facilitate student success, students must feel safe, secured and welcomed in their learning community. It is the responsibility of all school staff to create such an environment, but in reality the classroom teacher has the greatest influence. They can create a safe and welcoming environment in many ways, but a simple yet powerful way to create such a community is through cooperative games. Below is a link to a variety of cooperative games that are included in this website. I created this list while completing a course in the Faculty of Education at Lakehead University.

As part of my portfolio, I have also included an ongoing class activity I suggested in our class discussion board that teachers can use to encourage students to be kind to one another. This activity demonstrates my understanding that it is my responsibility to educate students not only in core subjects but also in character education.
